Emily at the Feminist Porn Conference!

I’m excited to announce that my talk was accepted to present at the first Feminist Porn Conference, happening in Toronto in conjunction with the 2013 Feminist Porn Awards and the new Feminist Porn Book.

(The romantic euphemism was just saying, “You get hacked because you write about porn and prescriptions!” Well. That’s just not going to change.)

Here’s the info about the talk I’ll be presenting:

TITLE
Vaginas, Science, and Social Justice: Representations of healthy female sexual functioning in feminist porn

ABSTRACT
Feminist porn has challenged many aspects of mainstream porn’s homogeneous representation of how women’s bodies look. Has it been as active in challenging the traditional model of how women’s bodies behave? This talk will review current research on female sexual functioning and illustrate how feminist porn can support women by representing the healthy variety in female sexual response.

I’ll be spending a bunch of time talking about responsive desire, non-concordant arousal and non-penetrative orgasms

Now I wish I had just titled it, “VAGINAS OF SCIENCE!” like I was Bill Nye. Ah well.
